Small income from his farmland is the only source of income for his family which consisted of his wife, three children, mother and younger brother who was a mental patient. He has been taking care of his younger brother for several years who was suffering from acute diabetes in addition to mental illness. Last year his eldest daughter was involved in a vehicle accident in Ernakulam and was seriously injured. She was in hospital for several months and the family had to spend a lot of money for her treatments. At the same time Mathew's younger brother was admitted in pariyaram medical college for acute diabetes, his both the legs had to be amputated and eventually passed away from complications. Mathew is still struggling with a lot of expenses he had to spend on these medical emergencies and continue to support his family.
